Bardócz Dezső (Szombathely, 1880 – ?, 1944/45)

Important pre-war Jewish/Hungarian painter. From 1912 to 1914 he studied at the Munich ART ACADEMY under Simon Hollósy and then Oszkár Heimann. Then
on the recommendation of the latter in Paris at the prestigious Julian Academy. During the First World War he worked as an administrator to fulfill his military service. After 1916 he was a permanent exhibitor for the Munich Art Gallery and attended the exhibitions of the Ernst Museum and the National Salon. From 1918 he lived in Budapest again. He made, among other things, a portrait of the mother of the Bulgarian king, Archduke Clementina, and won many important awards of his time. He made a famous "portrait of Ferenc Rákóczi". His "Portrait of the Soldier" was purchased by the city of Budapest. Jewish organizations and religious communities have given him many commissions, for example Dr Illes Adler (Chief Rabbi Budapest Israelite Community) commissioned the "Portrait of Simon Hevesi". Deszo Bardocz was a member of the Association of Fine Arts. He probably died in a German concentration camp in 1944 or 1945.
