Dick Stolwijk was born on February 28, 1931 in Palembang.
He received his artistic education at the Rijksacademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam and was a student of Henri Frédéric Boot.
He worked as an artist in Palembang (former Dutch East Indies), Haarlem, Deventer, Amsterdam, but also in various places in the Caribbean and South America.
As a watercolourist, etcher, photographer, illustrator, lithographer, (pen)draftsman and painter, he is known for his figure, insect, animal, nature, mythological, public and dance representations, landscapes and still lifes.
