Information about the artist: Eduard Andreas Willibrordus (Ed) van Teeseling (Amsterdam, November 29, 1924 - Nijmegen, July 14, 2008) was a Dutch sculptor, graphic artist, painter and draftsman. Ed van Teeseling was born in Amsterdam, but he spent his childhood in Nijmegen. In 1942 he was admitted to the art academy in Arnhem. Later he would also study with Alice Dannenberg at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris. In 1949 he established himself as an independent artist in Nijmegen. Ed van Teeseling made about twenty sculptures for the public space in Nijmegen. But there are also sculptures by his hand in other cities, such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Zwolle and Zutphen. He worked in bronze, stone and baked clay. He also made paintings, drawings and etchings. His significance for the development of bronze casting in the Netherlands was great, as was his role as 'nestor' and binding factor in post-war Nijmegen (and Gelderland) art life.
