Franciscus Gerardus Wilhelmus Nols (Heerlen, June 10, 1922 – Amsterdam, August 16, 1972) was a stained-glass artist, painter, monumental artist and teacher. Nols was a son of the painter Josef Maria Arthur Nols (1895-1965). He was educated at the City Academy (1941-1944) in Maastricht and the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten (1947-1951) in Amsterdam, as a student of Gé Röling and Heinrich Campendonk, among others. He was awarded the Royal Subsidy three times, twice received an honorable mention at the Talensprijs and finally won it in 1959. Nols belonged to the Amsterdam Limburgers. He lived in Amsterdam, but regularly stayed - especially in summer - at Erenstein Castle near Kerkrade, where he had his own studio. From 1961 to 1969 he taught free painting at the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht. He taught among others Hans van Drumpt, Wim Lutz, Geert Meyer, Frans Vos, Lex Wechgelaar and Petrus Willems.
