- Biography: George Lampe
George Gustav Lampe was educated at the Royal Academy in The Hague. He was a painter and designer. He designed, among other things, textile designs and wrote essays on modern art and film.
Lampe is considered part of the New Hague School and was active in movements such as the Posthoorngroep, Verve and Fugare. He was also a member of the painting society Pulchri Studio. In 1964 he succeeded Livinus van de Bundt as director of the Free Academy. He let this art academy grow into an extensive institute with hundreds of students, as he himself said in an interview in 1969. Lampe was married to the Vrij Nederland journalist Elisabeth Maria Lampe-Santberg, better known as Bibeb.
