About the artist: Hans Marinus van Dokkum was born on 17 August 1908 in Rotterdam. From 1926 to 1930 he studied at the National Normal School for Drawing Teachers in Amsterdam. In 1935 he settled in Utrecht with his wife Rie. He specialised in graphic techniques. He made many etchings, lithographs and linocuts. He printed his work on his own presses, often in a limited edition. He was a member of various painters' associations. From 1948 to 1972 he was chairman of the Association for the Promotion of Graphic Art 'De Grafische'. There he also met MC Escher. He died on 24 January 1995 at the age of 86 in his hometown of Utrecht.
