Beautiful painting by the Dutch artist Henk van Leeuwen (1890-1972)
Oil on canvas. Nicely painted with an impressionistic touch and a clear use of color. The incidence of light is well done by the painter.
Canvas size: 50.5 x 40 cm.
Condition: Good. Thick in the paint.
Henk van Leeuwen painted, drew, etched, watercolored and lithographed many different subjects. He painted many landscapes, portraits, figures, still lifes, interiors, etc. In 1959 he won the Audience Award of the “Haagsche Salon”, and has been a member of the “Haagsche Kunstkring” and “Pulchri Studio” in The Hague for many years. He drew a lot of inspiration from The Hague School and the Barbizon. Until about 1926 he signed with H. van Leeuwen and then with H. van Leeuwen vo (van Oudewater).
Around 1926 he also rented a studio in Paris where he painted and studied at the art academy.
