Henry Scheffer (The Hague 1798-Paris 1862) is the brother of Ary Scheffer.
After his father's death in 1809, the family moved to Brussels and in 1811 to Paris.
Henry Scheffer studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts there, and later received lessons from Pierre-Narcisse Guerin. In the course of his life he returned to The Hague several times and lived there for a year in 1827.
