Jan (Josephus Jan Gijsbertus) Bruens is geboren in Rotterdam op 20 januari 1942. Werkzaam in Zeeland (Aardenburg), voornamelijk als schilder: “Een surrrealistische combinatie van diverse onderwerpen”. Jan Bruens stond bekend als “praktiserend anarchist”. Hij werkte o.a. mee aan de “Gramschap” Pamflettenreeks. Gramschap (uitgegeven tussen 1979 en 1986) was ooit begonnen als een uitwisseling van hun producten tussen een aantal bevriende kunstenaars. Het groeide uit tot een medium voor het verspreiden van allerlei onconventionele en controversiële uitingen, zaken die elders niet konden of mochten.
