  • Jan de Hamer started as a draftsman for a Delft pottery factory, and then went on to study art. After living in America and Canada for a few years, where he also taught, he returned to the Netherlands.
  • For a while, Vrij Nederland, among others, featured his drawings almost every week, as well as a designer of book covers and technical drawings
  • he was active as a teacher and painter. His studio and home on the beautiful spot on the Egelantiersgracht was truly 'his home' and besides Arti and Pulchri, café 't Smalle on the other side was also a home.
