Jan Harm Weijns was born on December 6, 1864 in Zwolle. After a solid training in drawing and painting, he became a drawing teacher in Enschede. Because of his talent, he was appointed to the Drawing Academy in Rotterdam in 1892. From 1910 he was able to live off his artistic work and gave up teaching. Until his death in 1945 he was a gifted painter of landscapes, cityscapes, still lifes and portraits in particular. His work can be found in the Museum Boymans-Van Beuningen, the Haags Gemeentemuseum, the Dordrechts Museum and Rijksmuseum Twente, among others.
