A great Dutch master artist, who unfortunately only lived to be 31 years old. His entire oeuvre, created between 1907 and 1918, comprises approximately 150 paintings, mostly in small formats, some 100 drawings and more than 40 sheets of graphics, mainly etchings and woodcuts.
Jan Mankes has entered art history as "Holland's most tranquil painter". He died young of tuberculosis, something that contributed to the myths surrounding his artistry.
