Jan Peter Tripp, geboren 1945 in Oberstdorf / Allgäu, studierte Bildhauerei und Malerei in Stuttgart und Wien, wo er Meisterschüler bei RUDOLPH HAUSNER war. Schnell wurde er in den siebziger Jahren durch eine Vielzahl von Bildern bekannt, die einerseits beinahe fotorealistisch gemalt waren, den Betrachter aber andererseits mit manchen Rätseln zurückließen. Daneben entwickelte der heute im Elsass lebende Künstler eine intensive, psychologisierende Porträtkunst, die kaum Vergleichbares in der europäischen Moderne nach 1945 hat.
