Jan van Geem was the son of a blacksmith in Spaarndam. He lives and works on Spaarndam all his life. Jan finds work in a factory in Haarlem and makes rollers for printing floor tarpaulin. Because of his artistic skills, he is allowed to work as an apprentice designer. He is taught by F.Drost and draftsman JBKamp, later by Kees Verweij. Van Geem develops into an independent painter. Spaarndam is his greatest source of inspiration. In particular, he immortalized the village very much loved by him in many watercolours. Jan has been a member of the artists' association KZOD for many years, based in the Waag in Haarlem. From 1956 he is secretary and in 1968 a member of merit, in 1981 he receives the gold medal of the Order of Orange Nassau. Can be picked up or shipped, but glass breakage remains the buyer's risk.
