On the occasion of Jan Wolkers' seventieth birthday, Kunstcentrum Zaandam, in collaboration with Stichting Uitgeverij Noord-Holland, published the bibliophile edition Winterbeelden. Wolkers made twelve silkscreen prints especially for this. Dimensions of the image: H. 32 x W. 44 cm. The work is signed lower right and numbered lower left by the artist.
Dutch writer, poet and artist
The Dutch writer, poet and artist Jan Wolkers was born in 1925 in Oegstgeest. The writer grew up in a strict reformed family. After primary school, Jan Wolkers attended the MULO for a few years, but had to stop this education to help in his father's grocery store. Just before the war, the store was closed and Jan Wolkers did all kinds of jobs, including gardener and animal keeper. In 1943, he went into hiding to avoid being sent to work in Germany. During this time, he attended the Leiden painting academy Ars Aemula Naturae, where he took drawing and painting lessons.
