Deze pastel van een man door Jelle Troelstra, zoon van Pieter Jelles Troelstra (oprichter van de SDAP) en Nienke van Hichtum ( schrijfster van Afkes Tiental) is een mooi voorbeeld uit zijn tijd dat hij tot de Bergense School behoorde. Hij woonde en werkte in Genève, Frankrijk, Laren, Blaricum, Bergen , IJsland, Amsterdam en Amersfoort. Hij danste samen met Piet Mondriaan in de kroegen van het Gooi. Hij was lid van De Onafhankelijken, St. Lucas en Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam, de Bergense Schilders vereniging en het Amersfoorts Kunstenaarsgenootschap.
