Bij achter glas schilderen wordt er in een omgekeerde volgorde gewerkt. Allereerst wordt er een voorgrond opgebouwd met lijnen waarin meerdere details worden aangebracht, zoals bijvoorbeeld tekst. Vervolgens worden er diverse kleuren als vlakvulling c.q. achtergrond aangebracht.
