The Chinese painter AN KUN can be characterized as 'a painter with a velvety brushstroke'. In the case of AN KUN, however, it is a brushstroke with which he. though charming and refined, it shares its social point of view with the viewer in no uncertain terms. With compassion and respect for his Chinese models, he strips each model of his or her Chinese identity. And so the painter AN KUN shares with the viewer what he is concerned about. In his series PRETTY, BOURGEOIS FRIENDS (2010-2014), AN KUN portrays his ambitious Chinese friends, the Young Professionals. Remarkably enough, he does this for the most part with a distinctly Western appearance. With this transformation, AN KUN wants to fuel the discussion about the increasing westernization of Chinese society. Behold the power of AN KUN: quality and spirituality. The series partly consists of portraits; partly full-length paintings, in which the models are often placed in a metaphorical framework. Galerie Kunstbroeders presents the museum collection of works of art by this Chinese painter in its own gallery and at national and international fairs and exhibitions. The paintings by AN KUN that he painted in response to the Covid-19 pandemic are of recent date. A series with mainly the white and red color; colors both of which have such a distinct cultural significance in China. White the color of the door and red the color of love, hope and happiness. AN KUN wanted to capture his feelings and emotions during the pandemic with this series. Some of these works will be on display at the AAF in Amsterdam at the end of October. Various works by An Kun have since been included in private art collections in the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Germany and France. Exhibitions Since his introduction to Europe, An Kun has had several exhibitions in, among others, the Museum of Zandvoort and during Salon Residence in the Singer Museum in Laren. Furthermore, his works have been exhibited in Spain, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium and the Netherlands. Many of his paintings are in corporate and private collections across Europe. | |
