This work came into our possession through an inheritance. This painting was exhibited during an expedition in 1977 in 't Spant in Bussum. It couldn't be bought. Louis Boermeester did not want to sell a number of paintings. This is one of them. It is framed and behind glass. It is so heavy that it was difficult to take a good photo. It mirrors. That's why it's slightly slanted.

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse come from Chapter 6 of the Book of Revelation in the New Testament.
The word Apocalypse comes from Greek and means the lifting of the veil. The horses have a symbolic color that belongs to the rider. First comes the white horse with the Victor on its back. There is no consensus on who this horseman is, although he is seen by most people as the Antichrist. Others claim, also because of the color, that it is Christ himself. Second comes the red horse with the War on its back. Red is the color of blood and fire. Third comes the black horse with Hunger on its back. Black as the color of the destruction caused by hunger. Finally comes the pale horse with Death on its back. The gray color refers to the disappearance in death, the erasure of the living. The painting looks slanted but it is so heavy
