Lucy de Kruyf-Koops was born in Beek (Limburg) and trained at the Vrije Academie in The Hague. She makes ceramic and bronze objects, paintings and graphics. Lucy de Kruijf finds her inspiration in the earth; ' Life comes from the earth and returns to it. Our own existence is nothing but an intermediate phase of which we leave traces in the earth.' She often uses archetypes from ancient cultures such as towers, pyramids and spirals. Her ceramic objects often resemble archaeological objects. They look so old and lived-in that it's hard to believe they were only formed recently. These objects often have something sacred and mystical. The paintings and graphics are about what cannot be expressed in clay and are usually abstracted.
