Biography
Marius Johannes JANSSEN was born in The Hague on July 4, 1885 and died in Rotterdam on December 11, 1957.
He was a painter, photographer and (especially) etcher. After wanderings in Bergen op Zoom, Arnhem, Utrecht he worked from 1926 in Hillegersberg (1935 Rotterdam).
He is known for his cityscapes throughout the country, in which church towers in particular play a dominant role.
Marius Janssen was the stepfather of Marinus J. Drulman, known as the painter Marius the Younger.

The depicted etching by Marius Janssen is part of the "Rijnmond Toen" collection . After purchase, the etching was removed from the damaged frame and passe-partout, carefully cleaned and then stored in an acid-free archive box and under stable conditions.
This 100-year-old etching is in very good condition with a wide margin; around the very edge of the sheet, tiny nail holes are visible as a result of the original framing. The paper is otherwise in very good condition and hardly yellowed.
The etching is for sale due to downsizing of my collection due to age.
