Pieter Johannes Alexander Wagemans (The Hague, 25 August 1879 - The Hague, 30 August 1955) was a Dutch painter.
Wagemans was originally a house and decorative painter. At some point he decided to also take up the palette. He mainly painted many cityscapes and sometimes harbours, although landscapes and still lifes are also known. His work area was in The Hague, his birthplace and home town, where he also made several versions of his most famous painting, the Gevangenpoort. He also painted scenes in Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Haarlem and Delft (Oostpoort), among other places.
Most of his paintings are large in size. His work is generally of such high quality that in the past his paintings (the signature) were forged to JCK Klinkenberg, a painter with a greater stature and therefore price. Wagemans is also called a "colorist in traditional-realistic style" in technical terms. Less well known is that he also made mosaics.
His work is still regularly offered at auctions and in galleries and sold there, for example in the Venduehuis der notarissen in The Hague. Wagemans is also described in "De Scheen".
