Eind jaren tachtig verhuisde het AZU naar nieuwbouw op de Uithof en werden de gebouwen op het AZU terrein grotendeels gesloopt. Eèn van de ateliers van Goené keek uit op het AZU terrein en de sloop van de gebouwen inspireerde hem tot het maken van vele tekeningen en schilderijen.
