Rik van Iersel is an autodidact. As a young man he designs posters, draws comics and sketches all day long. He also makes his first large, colorful expressionist paintings. “Nothing is mine, everything comes from someone or something” are the words of van Iersel, which express his fascination for the world around him. He teaches himself a special, personal handwriting, but looks for inspiration to traditional painters with age-old themes.
