Het betreft een bijzondere gesigneerde gouache van kunstenaar Stien Eelsingh (1903 tot 1964). Aan versozijde is een eerdere opzet voor eenzelfde compositie aangebracht. Zie hiervoor de foto's.
Stien Eelsingh, geboren Zwolle, was een Nederlandse kunstschilder die een opmerkelijke bijdrage leverde aan de zogenaamde 'De Ploeg'-beweging. De Ploeg was een invloedrijke kunstenaarsgroep die in het begin van de 20e eeuw opgericht in Groningen. De leden van De Ploeg wilden vernieuwing in de kunst brengen en streefden naar artistieke vrijheid en experiment.
Stien Eelsingh was een van de weinige vrouwelijke leden van De Ploeg en werd in 1936 uitgenodigd om lid te worden. Ze bracht een frisse en eigenzinnige benadering van de beweging met haar schilderijen, die vaak het Drentse platteland en het dorpsleven als onderwerp hadden. Haar werk viel op door de heldere kleuren en het gevoel van warmte en intimiteit dat het uitstraalde.
