Information about the artist:
Sylvia Yvonne de Leur (Breslau, Poland, May 30, 1933 – Huizen, April 20, 2006) was a Dutch actress, comedienne and painter.
She was the daughter of the Dutch concertmaster Tonny de Leur and the German dancer Hertha Sommer. At the age of twelve she became a magician's assistant. She emigrated to Bussum in the Netherlands in 1948 and worked as a beautician for several years, after which she became a comedienne/actress.
Sylvia de Leur made her debut with Kees Manders in his night cabaret show Het Uiltje. She then went on tour as a contortionist with Benny Vreden, Berry Kievits and Gerard Walden. In the early 1960s she performed at the Lurelei cabaret. After her cabaret career, she played in a number of musicals, after which her film career took off. She starred in 1971 in What do I see!? and Daniel. In the 1970s she appeared in the television programs Pommetje Horlepiep, Rust noch duration, Short and small, My aunt Victoria and One of the eight and in the youth series The curse of Woestewolf.
In 1998 she was a guest with Leon de Winter in the television program Villa Felderhof. In 1999, Robert Long sang the song Sylvia, which is about De Leur, on his album Long Enough Young. In 2004 she played her last film role, a guest role in the television series Baantjer.
Sylvia de Leur died in 2006 from the consequences of the neurological disease ALS.
