Toine Corstjens - Abstract

According to daughter Henny de Leau, this work must have been made near Gulpen, where the Corstjens family often went walking. Presumably it concerns the village of Noorbeek. It was created between the mid-1970s and early 1980s, during which time he worked with a special technique in which he painted over pieces of tape that had been glued on.

Toine CORSTJENS Toine Corstjens was a former industrial designer of the Royal Sphinx in Maastricht but above all a painter in heart and soul. Toine received his artistic education in Maastricht at the city academy, but sees himself mainly as an autodidact and mentions his travels to Italy and France where he gained many experiences and impressions.
He exhibited as early as 1956 in the art galleries of Dejong Bergers in Maastricht and not much later in art galleries and museums from Aachen to London.

Toine Corstjens was a lover of the Limburg landscape, you experience this love from the many beautiful characteristic landscapes that he has made. His artistic instinct and talent is even more evident in his abstract work in which he knows how to create a harmony and rhythmic connection that grabs you. His eye for detail that you find in his landscapes can also be found in his abstract work.
