Dutch School XCII - XIX Centuries - National Gallery Catalogs - Mrs. VC Wilson and Miss EF Churchyard -1958
Published by: Publications department The National Gallery in association with AVROS Publishing Company
Dutch School XCII - XIX Centuries, partly in colour and partly black and white.
These two parts are intended to illustrate the catalogue of the Dutch School, which would also appear in 1958.
The images and their attributions are discussed in detail in the catalogue, so the text accompanying the plates only gives the title, attribution, painter's dates, inventory number and dimensions (in inches and metres). Where an image bears a date , this is in brackets after the title.
At the end of Part II are plates of all the signatures on the illustrated images that could be reproduced in photogravure; they are the same size as the originals unless otherwise stated. None of the reproductions of signatures have been retouched, but the contrasts have been deliberately enlarged in photography in some cases where the originals were faint or not easily discernible. Where infrared photography has been used for the same reason, this is noted in the accompanying caption.
The plates of the photographs are made direct from negatives. Nearly all the illustrated photographs and all the autographs were photographed especially for this publication and special praise goes to Mrs. V. C. Wilson and Miss B. F. Churchyard for the endless pains they have taken.

•Three paintings from the Dutch School catalogue arrived at the National Gallery too late to be shown here:
J. Bosboom: Interior of the Bakenesserkerk at Haarlem (No. 2712);
P. Lastman: Jano discovers Jupiter with Io (no. 6272);
Rembrandt: An Old Man in an Armchair, His Headdress Leaning on His Right Band (no. 6274).
The books are both in good condition with light signs of age, see photos, these are part of the description. On the back of part 1, there is some staining on the cover.
