Willem van Velhuizen (Rotterdam, January 13, 1954)

Van Veldhuizen studied at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam from 1972 to 1977, with Frank Dam and Anton Vrede, among others.

Van Veldhuizen's work is characterized by the representation of an almost unreal empty interior space, often a museum interior, of which a large part is floor, usually with a view to the outside. In addition, Van Veldhuizen often places elements in the space, such as statues or furniture. Interior, elements and outside space form a coherent composition that is technically painted very realistically, but gives a surrealistic representation. People are absent in most of his works; the spatial feeling is realized with light, reflection and shadow.

Van Veldhuizen is inspired by modern masters such as Mark Rothko, and feels related to 17th century Dutch architectural painter Pieter Jansz. Saenredam. In the museum interiors he paints, he often refers to his favorites in art, such as Michelangelo, Picasso, Man Ray, Barnett Newman, Piet Mondriaan, Gerrit Rietveld and Le Corbusier.

Van Veldhuizen's work is in various private and museum collections, and is exhibited practically every year at TEFAF in Maastricht.

When purchasing, a work of art can always be picked up, but by appointment, in Diemen (near Amsterdam, a few minutes from the A10 ring road). The collection period is very long; you can possibly pick up the work weeks or even months later and, if possible, combine it with a visit to (the) Amsterdam area for other matters. In that case you will, of course, save any shipping costs.
