------------------------------------------

Willem van Velhuizen (Rotterdam, 13 January 1954)

Van Veldhuizen studied at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam from 1972-1977, among others with Frank Dam and Anton Vrede.

Van Veldhuizen's work is characterized by the representation of an almost unreal empty interior space, often a museum interior, a large part of which is floor, usually with a view to the outside. In addition, Van Veldhuizen often places elements in the space, such as sculptures or furniture. Interior, elements and outdoor space form a cohesive composition that is technically very realistic, but gives a surrealistic representation. People are missing from most of his works; the spatial feeling is realized with light, reflection and shadow.

Van Veldhuizen is inspired by modern masters such as Mark Rothko, and feels an affinity with 17th-century Dutch architectural painter Pieter Jansz. saenredam. In the museum interiors he paints, he often refers to his favorites in art, such as Michelangelo, Picasso, Man Ray, Barnett Newman, Piet Mondrian, Gerrit Rietveld and Le Corbusier, among others.

Van Veldhuizen's work is in various private and museum collections, and is exhibited almost every year at the TEFAF in Maastricht.

When purchasing, the work can always be picked up, but by appointment, in Diemen (not far from the Art Auction office in Amstelveen). The term for collection is very long; the buyer can collect the work weeks or even months later and if possible combine it with a visit to (environment) Amsterdam for other matters.
