Willem Visser - Pancake plant in windowsill - Sold

Willem Visser is a figurative painter. He trained at the Academy of Visual Arts in Rotterdam between 1974 and 1979. From 1979 to 2002 he worked as a visual artist with exhibitions in the Netherlands and Belgium. His work is in private and public collections at home and abroad. Between 2003 and 2017, painting was on the back burner. During this time he worked as a project supporter, designer and webmaster at a non-profit organization. He has taken up painting again since 2017.
The subject of this painting is the pancake plant. The pancake plant is a plant from the nettle family, originally from China. They have strikingly large round leaves and fleshy stems. The leaves have a diameter of about 10 cm and are slightly off-center on the petiole.
Visser himself about the plants and the painting: ' They are a feast for the painter's eye. When the sun shines in the living room in the morning, it looks very festive. Especially when sunlight shines through the leaves, causing them to turn bright green, with shadows, cast shadows and bright areas of light. In other words, this painting was a little fun to paint .'
