Willem Zwart woonde en werkte in Groningen, Den Haag, Amsterdam, Arnhem en Haarlem. Leerling van de Akademie Minerva in Groningen, olv J.H. Egenbergen. Hij schilderde, landschappen en stadsgezichten, tekende en lithografeerde en was lid van Arti en Amecitiae te Amsterdam.
Zijn werken hangen in vele Nederlandse musea. Ook heeft hij een tentoonstelling gehad in het Stedelijk Museum van Amsterdam.
