Het schilderstuk is opgedoken in het nalatenschap van wijlen portretschilder Peer van den Molengraft. Peer werkte in de naoorlogse periode enige tijd in Deurne (de Houten Hoek) in de kunstenaars-enclave gehuisvest bij Marie van Houts, waar ook Willi Martinali verbleef met zijn neef Jack Harden.
