Rob van KINGSBRUGGEN (The Hague 1948)
Painter, draftsman
Education:
After having briefly attended classes at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague in 1968, Rob van Koningsbruggen entered the Free Academy (The Hague) in 1969. From 1970 to 1972 he had a place at Ateliers '63 in Haarlem.
Rob van Koningsbruggen has worked in The Hague, Haarlem and Den Oever, among others.
Rob van Koningsbruggen is a painter of abstract art. He started as an informal artist and made many writings on paper. Around 1974 he started making 'slide' paintings, using paint on one canvas as a 'brush' for the other canvas. He often presented this work in two or four parts. Van Koningsbruggen saw this as an informal painting method, in which the result is independent of the maker: the process is central to informal art. From 1980, color and color opinion became more important for Van Koningsbruggen. In his paintings he investigates different techniques for mixing colors with brushes and he develops a new color circle. His paintings often have simple shapes.
Exhibitions and prizes:
Van Koningsbruggen has had a few major solo exhibitions; in 1977 in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, in 1987 in the Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam and in 2002 a retrospective exhibition in the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague.
