Amsterdam Impressionism was an art movement in the late nineteenth century, founded by George Hendrik Breitner, whose basis was French and Hague impressionism. The Amsterdam painters distinguished themselves from the Hague and Laren Schools in particular by their choice of subject. This was in fact aimed at metropolitan life.
