Information about the artist: Arie Johannes (Aat) Veldhoen (Amsterdam, November 1, 1934 – Amsterdam, December 9, 2018) was a Dutch visual artist and graphic artist. He grew up in Amsterdam and learned the artist's trade from his father, who was first an advertising painter, and later a painter. Aat Veldhoen started his career as a draftsman, but he quickly established his name as a free artist. -Subjects: dune landscapes, self-portraits, naked women and couples making love. He bought his first etching press from the Royal Subsidy for Painting, which he received three times in a row around 1956. He later started drawing directly on offset plates, in order to have the "rotaprints" printed in large editions. With this he wanted to fulfill his ideal of making art accessible to everyone, 'folk graphics' it had to be. Between about 1964 and 1967, Veldhoen rode a cargo bike full of prints through Amsterdam, where he sold graphic work for three guilders each. From the 1990s until his death in 2018, he was the partner of the Dutch sociologist, social geographer, feminist and former politician Hedy d'Ancona (1937). Aat Veldhoen passed away in 2018 at the age of 84 in Amsterdam. (Source: Wikipedia)
