  • De Koningh was a son of the painter Leendert de Koningh (1777-1849) and Jacoba Wouterina de Koningh (1782-1845). He was given the first names Arie Ketting, but regularly used the second first name as part of his surname and signed both 'AK de Koningh' and 'A. Necklace de Koningh'. He was taught by his father together with his sister Sophia (1807-1870) and brothers John (1808-1845) and Leonard. He painted and drew landscapes, portraits and animal scenes. He also made etchings and lithographs.[2] Following in the footsteps of his father, he published a number of lithographs in 1839 under the title Six Faces in the Surroundings of Dordrecht. He participated in exhibitions of Living Masters in Amsterdam, Groningen, The Hague, Nijmegen and Rotterdam, among others.[1]

In 1847 De Koningh married the widow Cornelia van der Zande (ca. 1817/1818-1852). She was a flour miller at the Zijlmolen on the Zijlweg in Haarlem. In addition to being an artist, Ketting de Koningh also became a miller and continued the business when he remarried in 1853 to Justina de Reus (1829-1896). In 1860 the mill burned down after a lightning strike, the miller's house was spared.[3][4] In 1864 he settled with his wife in Amersfoort, where he was active as a photographer in addition to being an artist.

Arie Ketting de Koningh died in 1867, at the age of 51. His work is included in the collections of, among others, the Amsterdam Museum and the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam.
