Ben Hosman was born in 1919. he received his first painting lessons at an early age at the evening academy in Amsterdam. He was taught by the well-known Amsterdam painter Cees van IJsseldijk, among others, and made his first oil painting that same year. From 1945 to 1977 he was active in business and traveled extensively in the wine regions of France, Spain and Italy. Much of his inspiration was found in Dutch landscapes and beaches, the unique gardens of Giverny, the inexhaustible Provence as well as flowers and still lifes.
