From 1950-1954 Cassee was educated at the AKI Enschede. In 1961 he worked in Paris in Atelier 17 with SW Hayter. From 1966 to 1988, Cassee taught at the Academy of Visual Arts and Design in Den Bosch.
Dick Cassee is one of the most important graphic artists in the Netherlands. He currently lives and works in Amsterdam. Cassee makes landscapes, dune landscapes, non-figurative and geometric abstract work. Dick Cassee is inspired by vast deserted landscapes, his drawings arise from direct observation. He draws the subject ten times on the spot to "take the form with him", after which they are further elaborated in the studio. After 2006, the figurative resemblance becomes secondary for him.
