Zeer bijzonder origineel werk van de wereldberoemde Amerikaanse grafisch ontwerper Eric Carle, bekend van het in 1969 uitgegeven boek The Very Hungry Caterpillar, of ook wel Rupsje Nooitgenoeg.
Deze illustratie is gemaakt voor het boek Watch Out! A Giant! (Pas op voor de Reus!) dat ook is uitgegeven in 1978.
Het werk is opgebouwd uit met gouache beschilderd papier wat is uitgeknipt en is verwerkt tot een collage. Langs de onderste rand (niet zichtbaar i.v.m. passe-partout) is het werk met de hand gesigneerd met het jaartal 1978 en daarnaast de tekst:
"24 For Hens Gottmer with appreciation & love. Eric Carle 25".
Het werk is door Eric Carle persoonlijk overhandigd tijdens de opening van de door haar georganiseerde eerste tentoonstelling voor kinderen in het Frans Halsmuseum in Haarlem.

Conditie.: Het beeld zelf is in heel goede staat, gezien leeftijd. Op het passe-partout zijn aan voor en achterzijde enkele kleine vlekjes.
