It was the first time that the Association Board commissioned a medal with an abstract design. It's called 'Without Title'; a favorite naming convention for works of art in the 1970s and 1980s. Zijlstra designed a medal that once again shows how relative the concept of 'abstract' actually is. Its design gives a direct association with sandy beach, sea, foam and ash. Organic, overlapping shapes, where the only straight line separates two flat parts. The clay has been rubbed over that line with the finger; this invites you to feel. The medal is not completely round: a small protrusion enlivens the whole.
