Henk Dekker - Evening Hook of Holland

Henk (Henricus Nicolaas) Dekker was born in Gouda in 1897. He moved to The Hague, where he died in 1974. Dekker received lessons from painter HJ van der Weele, but mainly educated himself. He painted sea, harbour and dune views along the Dutch coast. In stormy weather he could often be found on boulevards and harbour heads. Besides in the Netherlands he worked in various places around the Mediterranean, France, Great Britain and Sweden, places he visited on his many journeys with pilot boats and coastal vessels. There is also still great interest in his work in countries such as Belgium and the United States.
The work by Dekker offered here is a large and monumental seascape. It is signed on both the front and back and also titled on the back. The work is undated. It comes from a Dutch collector, living in Berlin. It is classically framed.
