- Hubert Marie Luns
Founder of the Royal School of Visual Arts in 's-Hertogenbosch, the successor of the Academie Royale from the French era. Luns studied at the Rijksnormaalschool for art teachers in Amsterdam and at night school at the Rijksacademie, then in Paris and Brussels; was then head teacher at the Rotterdam Academy. In 1918 he founded the Royal School for Useful and Visual Arts in Den Bosch, which in turn was given a successor in the Academy. Luns was also the director of that school until 1923, afterwards he became director of the National Institute for Drawing Teachers in Amsterdam. From 1931 to 1942 he was professor at Delft University of Technology. In addition, he was also a draftsman, painter, art educator and writer. For his services to Brabant he became an honorary member of the Provincial Society of Arts and Sciences. Huib Luns was the father of the later Minister of Foreign Affairs and Secretary of NATO, Mr. Joseph Luns.
