Favre lives in Paris and Lyon, but spends the last eight years of his life partly in The Hague. He teaches himself to paint and makes mainly lively portraits, interiors and still lifes. In his paintings and graphics he experiments with exuberant colours. He is admired worldwide for this, but after his death he falls into oblivion.

A collector from Woerden has made it her mission to put Louis Favre back on the map. She does this by bringing experts into contact with each other and organizing regular exhibitions. Now it is the turn of the Woerden City Museum, which welcomes Favre with open arms.
