- Louis Gans (born 1930 - died 2012) studied art history at the State University of Utrecht and began his career as curator of the Rijksmuseum Kröller-Müller (1953-1960). In 1960 he obtained his doctorate with the dissertation 'Nieuwe Kunst: de Nederlandsebijdrage tot de Art Nouveau', the study that formed the beginning of the revaluation of Art Nouveau in the Netherlands.
Louis Gans was chief curator of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam from 1960 to 1964, where he contributed to the catalogues of the exhibitions '150 Years of Dutch Art' and 'Edgar Fernhout', both in 1963.
After his period at the Stedelijk, he worked from 1964 to 1972 as an organizer of projects aimed at the accessibility of contemporary visual art. Gans published many art historical articles and cultural historical essays, including a study of naive painting.
