Roberto Matta - Champagne Taittinger collection - Sold

Born in Chile in 1912, Roberto Matta Echaurren – known as Matta – is one of the most original and important figures of the so-called "third generation of Surrealists". After coming to Paris to study architecture, he worked with Le Corbusier and subsequently met André Breton, Dali, Picasso and Magritte, all of whom encouraged him to paint. During the war he went to live in New York, where he took part in the activities of the surrealist group in exile. His work as a whole gives voice to the 'inner space', expressed in slightly acidic transparencies - figurative or otherwise - whose sharply contrasting contours bring them to life. Matta's works can be seen in the most famous museums in the world. The Taittinger Collection from Matta includes an earlier wine from 1992.
