Warm and raw expressionist work by Siebrand Weitenberg

Siebrand Weitenberg, born in 1960 in Hillegom, studied Free Drawing and Painting at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague from 1980 to 1986.
Weitenberg's oeuvre consists of paintings, graphics, drawings, gouaches and photographs. All works are actually very romantic: the artist believes that in the current material age there is a need for a mystical feeling to be able to escape. According to Weitenberg there is a need for beautiful images with which you can escape to an idealized reality and imaginative world full of surprises. In this way he tries to give ordinary things a deeper meaning, making everyday life more mysterious and unknown, but at the same time feels familiar. Weitenberg always works from themes such as love, hope, paradise and nature.
Siebrand's material is always clearly present. For example, the oil paintings are built up from several thick layers of paint. His works are known for their expressive colours. In addition to the splendour of colours, there is also a lot to experience in technical terms: he applies various etching techniques within a single print. By printing beautiful structures, the drawing really comes to life in all layers. The work sometimes looks calm and introverted, but due to the use of paint and the colours it is also very dynamic and robust. Siebrand himself calls his work "expressionistic, with constructivist construction of form and surface".
Siebrand Weitenberg has had many solo and group exhibitions in the Netherlands, including at the Pulchri Studio in The Hague and the WTC in Rotterdam. Weitenberg's work is represented in private and public art collections.

NB The description states that the edition consists of 20 pieces. The size of the edition is not mentioned on this work. Only that this is number XVIII. That the edition consisted of 18 works is derived from an earlier auction of a similar work (XVII/XX).
