Compier maakte deel uit van de Amsterdamse kunstenaarsgroep De
Keerkring (opgericht in 1949 - opgeheven in 1999). De organisatie
stelde zich ten doel de belangen te behartigen van alle Nederlandse
kunstenaars, ongeacht hun artistieke, politieke of religieuze
overtuigingen. Dit samengaan diende een algemeen belang: de culturele
ontwikkeling van het Nederlandse volk. Na de beginjaren begon De
Keerkring zich vooral sterk te maken voor figuratieve kunst.
