Offered: Hand-signed etching by artist Jan Montyn, number 7 from an edition of 25. Made in 1987. In Passepartout. It was in a frame from Kunsthandel Reeker from the PC Hooftstraat. The frame was damaged, so I offer the work in Passepartout. The Passepartout also has a bit of a damp spot on the left.
About the artist:
Jan Montyn's work is characterized by his stylized symbols, an almost unique language. From 1959 onwards he decided to concentrate mainly on the etching technique, because he found that etching was the best medium for him to express himself. He carried out his first experiments with the etching technique without color, later he added color. On zinc plates he works with mixed etching techniques such as dry needle, aquatint and taille-douce. He invented the method of printing multiple etching plates on one large plate himself. Montyn always prints his prints himself in small editions. The most important theme in his work is the landscape, as the representation of human emotion. Montyn meditates on the landscape, as it were. His connection with the landscape and the earth is evident from his preference for the color umber, which for him symbolizes the earth and everything that is connected to it. Long journeys, especially to South-East Asia, are an important source of inspiration in his work. He has more or less permanent residences in the South of France, Thailand and the Netherlands. His works are included in the collections of, among others, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Boymans-van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam and the Netherlands Institute for the Visual Arts in The Hague.
