  • Akker, Theo vanden

Zaandam 4 March 1946

Visual, mainly graphic artist. Together with Leo Poelmeijer, Wim Koster and Selma Timmerman, Van den Akker received the Culture Prize 1979 from the municipality of Zaanstad, in connection with their joint design of a number of graphic panels for the community center 'De Poelenburcht' in Zaandam.

The work of Theo van den Akker uses, among other things, high-pressure technology. He is also a specialist in intaglio, planographic printing, wall paintings and wall ceramics. Each subject is serially worked, mainly in black. Van den Akker painted a regional bus and together with ceramist Reinier den Adel, the Sports Funds Pool on Mauvestraat was fitted with ceramic panels both inside and out at the end of the 1970s.

Theo van den Akker was awarded the Sculpture Prize at the exhibition Start 91 2) in Apeldoorn for his sculptures 'Drainage' and 'Out of use', where graduating students from academies presented themselves. His sculptures are made of iron, the titles informative in terms of shape.

  • His work is owned by companies, the municipality, the government and private individuals. Theo van den Akker has been a member of various art committees.
